A convicted felon who pleaded not guilty to murder Friday in the shooting death of a 43-year-old woman in San Francisco’s Silver Terrace neighborhood early Saturday morning apparently had a romantic relationship with the victim, police said.
Officers responding to a shooting in the 100 block of Apollo Street at about 5:35 a.m. on Saturday found the victim, identified as San Francisco resident Lisa Broussard, lying unconscious on the floor of a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her upper torso, police said.
Officers summoned an ambulance and rendered aid, but Broussard ultimately died at the scene, according to police.
Investigators located 32-year-old San Francisco resident Everick Stephenson in San Leandro and took him into custody, police said.
Stephenson and Broussard had been in a dating relationship for over a year, police said.
Stephenson was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, felony domestic violence, being a felon in possession of a firearm and a parole violation, police said.
Stephenson pleaded not guilty today to one count of murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a gun in connection with Broussard’s death.
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Edward Torpoco said that within the last three years Stephenson had also been convicted of second-degree robbery and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury.
Stephenson remains in custody with bail set at $5 million. The motive for the homicide remains under investigation.
