A woman was shot in the thigh Tuesday evening near a homeless encampment beneath a U.S. Highway 101 overpass in San Francisco, a police spokeswoman said.
The 43-year-old victim was in the area beneath the highway in the 2800 block of Cesar Chavez Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday when someone fired a gun in her direction, San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said.
The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, Gatpandan said.
Gatpandan said reporting witnesses told officers that six male suspects and a black sedan were spotted at the scene during the shooting.
Investigators are still trying to determine whether it was a drive-by shooting or if the shooter was on foot. Reporting witnesses were not cooperative with the investigation, according to Gatpandan.
No suspects have been arrested and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said.
