A fire displaced eight and caused hundreds of thousands in damage to an apartment building in Foster City Thursday morning, according to the Foster City/San Mateo/Belmont Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 10:46 a.m. to 720 Bounty Drive and found smoke coming from the attic of a three-story building.
Neither firefighters nor civilians were injured, but police and firefighters assisted an occupant with medical needs, fire officials said.
Firefighters said the fire was burning above two third-floor apartments and damaged at least six of the building’s ten apartments.
Firefighters said they believe the fire started accidentally in the wall of a second floor unit where plumbing repairs were underway.
The fire spread up the wall to the attic where a sprinkler system kept the fire from spreading until firefighters extinguished it, fire officials said.
Six apartments sustained water damage and are uninhabitable, according to the fire department. The American Red Cross will be helping the displaced residents find temporary housing.
