A Martinez woman was killed Wednesday night when she fell off the back of a motorcycle and was run over by a vehicle on state Highway 37 in Vallejo, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Lacey McKenna, 37, was riding on the back of a 2003 Harley Davidson driven by Curtis Runnion, 37, of Martinez, on westbound Highway 37 west of Wilson Avenue around 9:50 p.m., CHP officials said.
When Runnion sped up as he approached the incline of the Napa River Bridge, McKenna, who was holding Runnion around the waist, lost her grip and fell onto the roadway into the path of a 2003 Mercedes CLK55 AMG driven by a 73-year-old Novato woman, according to the CHP.
McKenna was run over by the Mercedes and died instantly. All westbound traffic on the highway came to an immediate stop and traffic was diverted onto Wilson Avenue, CHP officials said.
Traffic on the Wilson Avenue off-ramp had to be turned around and westbound Highway 37 was closed until 1:37 a.m. today, according to the CHP.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, CHP officials said.
