Susan Martin steps in as SJ State interim president

Susan Martin, the former president of Eastern Michigan University, has been selected as the interim president of San Jose State University, university officials said today.

California State University Chancellor Timothy White today announced the selection of Martin, who will take over at SJSU on Aug. 18, a day after current president Mohammad Qayoumi leaves to serve as chief advisor for infrastructure and technology to Afghanistan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

“Susan’s background and leadership style is a perfect fit for San Jose State,” White said in a statement.

CSU trustees will be asked to approve Martin’s salary at their meeting next Tuesday and this fall the trustees will initiate a national search for Qayoumi’s permanent replacement, CSU officials said.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and an MBA and doctorate degrees in accounting from Michigan State University.
