Fairfield police contacted a juvenile Thursday suspected of causing a fireworks-related 325-acre fire near Lagoon Valley and Pena Adobe parks in southwest Vacaville on Saturday, the Vacaville Fire Department said.
Fairfield police contacted the suspect at a Fairfield residence and turned him over to Vacaville police detectives, according to the fire department. The suspect was booked into Solano County juvenile hall for causing an unlawful fire to forest land, fire officials said.
When the fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Vacaville police and fire investigators contacted several people walking down a gravel road in the middle of Lagoon Valley Park. The people were identified but there was no evidence linking them to the fire at that time, according to the fire department.
The people were re-contacted during an investigation by Cal Fire, Vacaville police detectives and the Vacaville Fire Department, and a suspect was identified, fire officials said.
The fire initially was reported at Pena Adobe Park, but it actually started at adjacent Lagoon Valley Park.
Witnesses told fire officials Saturday they saw someone using fireworks in Lagoon Valley Park shortly before the fire started, Vacaville police Sgt, Steve Carey said.
No structures were damaged but voluntary evacuations were put in effect until Sunday morning. The fire was 100 percent contained late Sunday morning.
Approximately 135 firefighters from the region responded to the fire, including strike teams from Yolo and Contra Costa counties.
