Alleged intoxicated driver rear-ends, kills teen

An 18-year-old man died in a traffic crash early this morning in Hayward, police said.
The deadly crash occurred at about 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of Hesperian and Eden Shores boulevards, according to police.
A 28-year-old Hayward man was allegedly speeding north on Hesperian Boulevard when he rear-ended a vehicle the teen was in, police said. Police identified the 28-year-old as Paul Butler.
Butler allegedly fled the crash site but Hayward police officers apprehended him a few blocks away, according to police. Butler was allegedly intoxicated, police said.
The teen was taken to Eden Medical Center, but died shortly after arrival, police said. A 20-year-old also suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police She was driving the vehicle the teen was in, police said.
Officers arrested Butler on suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to police. Butler is in custody in the Hayward Police Detention Facility.
