Four people have been displaced after a home in San Jose caught fire Saturday night when illegal fireworks landed in the backyard, according to a fire captain.
Firefighters responded to the 800 block of Yerba Buena Road at 9:44 p.m. on reports of a fire.
A resident saw the firework land in his backyard start a fire. He attempted to put it out, but the fire ignited his home and threatened the house behind him, according to Capt. Mitch Matlow.
But that didn’t stop revelers from lighting additional pyrotechnics while the house was burning, Matlow said:
“When our crews were on scene they were watching other neighbors still launching fireworks.”
Information about the extent of the damage caused by Saturday night’s fire was not immediately available.
