Motel 6 shooting victim suspected pimp

The woman shot in a Rohnert Park motel room early Thursday morning was engaged in prostitution, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, and the man who reported the shooting was arrested on suspicion of pimping.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday morning authorities responded to a Motel 6 located at 6145 Commerce Blvd. on a report of shots fired.

Arriving officers found a woman in her early 20s who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and she was transported to a hospital. Witnesses reported seeing a shirtless black man in his late 20s or mid 30s fleeing the scene on foot, according to officers.

Investigators believe that man to have been the victim’s customer.

He was caught on camera entering the motel premises around 1:40 a.m. The suspect left some clothing and a pair of eyeglasses in the room, according to officers.

Alton Emanuel Stewart, a 24-year-old resident of Sacramento, was staying at the motel with the victim. Stewart was struck in the head by the suspect as he fled the scene, according to officers.

Stewart subsequently called 911 to report the shooting. He was arrested on suspicion of pimping, and committing a felony while out on bail, according to officers.

Information about the victim’s current condition was not immediately available.
