A 32-year-old woman who was shot and killed on Pier 14 next to the San Francisco Ferry Building in broad daylight on Wednesday has been identified by the medical examiner’s office.
San Francisco resident Kathryn Steinle was found suffering from a at least one gunshot wound to her upper torso at about 6:30 p.m. near the Embarcadero and Mission Street in the city’s South Beach neighborhood, police said.
UPDATE 4:43 p.m. Parolee arrested in ‘random’ Embarcadero slaying.Steinle was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to police.
Officers flooded the area and detained a person matching the description of a “possible person of interest” on the corner of Embarcadero and Townsend Street.
Police have not publicly released that person’s identity and are continuing to investigate a possible motive.
