A group of broadcast news reporters were robbed at gunpoint of their camera equipment Thursday morning in San Francisco as they were covering a homicide investigation.
At 6:04 a.m., news crews had gathered on The Embarcadero, in front of Pier 14, where a woman had been killed Wednesday night, when three armed robbers approached the group and demanded their equipment, according to a police spokeswoman.
Part of the attack was caught on camera, as one of the crews was preparing for a live broadcast.
The suspects made off with camera equipment valued at over $100,000, according to Officer Grace Gatpandan.
One cameraman was struck in the head with a pistol and suffered a laceration to the head, Gatpandan said. The three other victims not injured.
Police described the three suspects as black males, all wearing dark clothing. At least one of the suspects had dreadlocks, according to Gatpandan.
The three suspects fled in a black BMW 7 Series sedan, Gatpandan said.
