High temperatures Thursday in inland areas of the Bay Area could reach the mid to upper 90s in some locations and more than 100 degrees in others, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast Thursday calls for 98 degrees in Santa Rosa, 97 degrees in Concord, 103 degrees in Livermore, 97 degrees in Fairfield and 94 degrees in San Jose, weather service officials said. Cloverdale is expected to reach 100 degrees.
The high temperatures could cause heat-related illnesses and impact wildfires, weather service officials said.
Residents could suffer from heat exhaustion or heat stroke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Heat stroke is a potentially fatal illness.
Seniors, people with chronic medical conditions, athletes, children, the poor and homeless and outdoor workers are most at risk for heat-related illnesses, according to the CDC.
Public health officials in Napa, Sonoma, Alameda, San Mateo, and Contra Costa counties said that either no cooling centers were planned, they weren’t sure or no one was available to answer the question.
Some places where people can get cool, such as community centers, will be open in Santa Clara County, Santa Clara County Public Health Department health information officer Allison Thrash said. But Thrash said the weather is not expected to be severe enough to open additional centers.
Solano County officials usually encourage people to visit libraries and community centers, Solano County public health administrator Jayleen Richards said.
Forecasters expect temperatures along the coast to reach only the low to mid 70s. The expected high for San Francisco is 76 degrees.
Weather service officials are advising people to drink plenty of water and seek shelter from the sun whenever possible. The officials are reminding people to avoid leaving pets in vehicles and provide plenty of water and shade to animals.
Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, weather officials said.
Forecasters expect somewhat cooler temperatures Friday and the cooling will continue into the weekend, forecasters said.
