A wildfire in the Contra Loma Regional Park are of Antioch grew to 533 acres Wednesday evening but firefighters reached 80 percent containment on the blaze, according to a Contra Costa County fire inspector.
The fire was reported at 4:04 p.m., according to a county fire dispatcher. Firefighters with the county, Cal Fire and East Bay Regional Parks are all working to put it out, according to Fire Inspector Steve Aubert.
As of 8:15 p.m. it was too soon to estimate when the fire would be extinguished, but the wind was dying down and temperatures were dropping as the sun began to set, according to Fire Inspector Lisa Martinez:
“We’re still working out strategies and tactics that we’re going to take to have full containment.”
No injuries had been reported and no structures had been damaged, according to Martinez.
Evacuations have been ordered for residents of Grimsby Drive. An evacuation center has been established at Mira Vista Hills Park in the same neighborhood where the Red Cross is offering assistance, according to Aubert.
