East Bay hiker hurt in crash with bicyclist

A hiker in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness near Danville was injured Wednesday morning in a collision with a bicyclist, according to an East Bay Regional Parks spokeswoman.

The 51-year-old woman was hiking on the Del Amigo Trail around 9 a.m. today, around 1 mile from the trailhead for the Eugene O’Neill National Historic Site, when the collision occurred, according to Carolyn Jones, a spokeswoman for the East Bay Regional Park District.

Passing bicyclists were going downhill and took a sharp left turn when one of them collided with the woman, Jones said.

The bicyclist was thrown to the ground, but uninjured. The woman suffered injuries to her neck, back and chest and abrasions to her face and shoulder.

Firefighters removed her from the area in a pickup truck and took her to the trailhead, and then to San Ramon Medical Center.

The bicyclist was not exceeding the speed limit and has not been cited for the collision, which appears to have been “purely accidental,” Jones said.
