A dog bit a police officer several times and died after the officer shot it Sunday evening in the Bayview Neighborhood of San Francisco, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 6:08 p.m. to a home in the 1400 block of Oakdale Avenue, police said. The dog attacked the officer as the officer approached the home.
