Roller coaster injures two at Great America

A roller coaster accident left two people injured Friday night at an amusement park in Santa Clara, according to a park spokesman.

Around 8:10 p.m. Friday an employee at California’s Great America was struck by a train on the Flight Deck ride as it returned to the station, according to a statement from park spokesman Roger Ross.

One person riding the roller coaster also reported a hand injury.

Both individuals were transported to a hospital for medical treatment, according to California’s Great America.

Park officials say they are cooperating with the local and state agencies investigating Friday night’s accident, and the Flight Deck will remain closed for the duration of the investigation.

Further information about the extent of the victims’ current condition and the extent of their injuries was not immediately available.
