Police deem unattended bag at SFO safe

San Francisco police responded to a suspected explosive device at San Francisco International Airport early Tuesday morning.

At 3 a.m., police were called to the scene after someone discovered an unattended bag left in front of a coffee shop in Terminal 3, according to SFO spokesman Doug Yakel.

Police brought in a K-9 unit to assist with the investigation and the dog positively identified the bag as possibly having explosives, police said.

Although there were not many people inside the terminal at the time, police cleared out the immediate area where the bag was discovered, according to Yakel.

Police notified the department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.

After a quick search, the EOD unit did not find any explosive device and deemed the bag safe as of 4 a.m., Yakel said.

The unclaimed bag was handed over to airport officials, according to police.
