Watsonville police suspend facial hair policy for charity

The Watsonville Police Department has temporarily suspended its facial hair policy to help raise money for Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services.

The temporary change to the policy went into effect on Monday and will remain in effect until Aug. 31.

Officers who voluntarily participate and grow a beard or goatee will be asked to donate $100 to the Watsonville-based Jacob’s Heart organization.

At least 10 officers are expected to participate and grow facial hair, according to the department.
