Armed man robs Santa Cruz Subway

An armed man who robbed a Subway restaurant in Santa Cruz on Monday morning may be connected to similar crimes in the area, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery at a Subway at 1723 Soquel Ave. around 10:15 a.m. Monday, police said.

The suspect had a handgun and entered the restaurant, confronted an employee and demanded cash, according to police.

The employee handed the money over at gunpoint and the suspect fled from the restaurant, police said.

No injuries were reported in the robbery.

The suspect is described as a black man between 50 and 60 years old, standing about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build, according to police.

He was wearing a dark blue jacket and carried a red shoulder bag during the robbery, police said.

The suspect description matches ones from similar robberies recently reported in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, according to police.
