About $25,000 worth of electronics was stolen from a school in unincorporated Monterey last weekend, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Sometime between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 6:45 a.m. Saturday, someone stole computers, flat-screen televisions, cameras and other school property from York School at 9501 York Road, sheriff’s officials said.
The burglar or burglars also stole a Sony laptop from the backpack of a 17-year-old student.
The suspects forced their way into several offices and classrooms and used a 2005 Chevrolet Express Van, damaging it before returning it to the school, according to deputies.
Sgt. Brian Irons said a burglar drove the van 27 miles during the theft.
Irons is asking anyone who saw the van, which is white with York School placards on it, to call the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office at (831) 647-7702.
Deputies said they have not made any arrests in the case and do not have any suspect information, but Irons said the sheriff’s crime lab obtained evidence at the school that may assist deputies in identifying suspects.
