Woman fatally struck in Bay Point identified

The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has identified a woman who died when a truck backed up and hit her and eight other people outside of a restaurant in Bay Point early Saturday morning as Laura Sanchez-Gomez, 24, of San Pablo.

According to sheriff’s officials, Sanchez-Gomez was hit after Martin Bretado-Munoz, 21, of Bay Point, backed up his full-size truck into a group of people outside La Finca Restaurant in the 700 block of Port Chicago Highway around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Sanchez-Gomez was pronounced dead after being taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, sheriff’s officials said.

Eight others were injured and were taken to four different hospitals, sheriff’s officials said.

No other information about the victims was immediately available this morning.

Bretado-Munoz was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI and was booked into county jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, sheriff’s officials said.
