Overnight rain floods Bay Area highways

Overnight rains led to limited flooding on highways in San Francisco and San Jose this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 2:30 a.m. large puddles up to six feet deep were reported at multiple locations along U.S. Highway 101 and Interstate Highway 280 in the San Francisco, according to Officer William Ogilvie. Puddles several feet deep were reported on northbound Highway 101 in the vicinity of Ninth Street and the Duboce Avenue off-ramp.

Flooding was also reported on southbound Highway 280 in the vicinity of Mariposa Street, Ogilvie said.

At 7:49 a.m. a 4-inch puddle blocking most lanes of traffic was reported at the interchange between northbound Highway 280 and northbound state Highway 87 in San Jose, according to Ogilvie.

Today’s forecasts for the San Jose area call for a 20 percent chance of rain with isolated showers before 11 a.m., gradually becoming mostly sunny this afternoon with a high near 66 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
