Mayors wager city’s best goods in NBA playoffs

The mayor of Oakland and the mayor of New Orleans made a friendly bet Friday on the outcome of the playoff series between the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans, the mayor’s office said.

The mayor of the city with the winning team will receive some of the other city’s best goods after the seven-game series ends May 3. In a statement, Mayor Libby Schaaf said:

“After a thrilling regular season, we’re pulling for the Splash Brothers, Coach Kerr, and the rest of this dynamic team to bring a title home to Oakland.”

Schaaf will send Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans five pounds of OCHO chocolate, a gift box of Numi Organic Tea, a bag of Blue Bottle Coffee and a t-shirt from Oaklandish if the Warriors lose.

Landrieu will send Schaaf some Café Du Monde beignets, a bag of PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans, Pat O’Brien’s – World Famous – Hurricane Mix and a t-shirt from Fleurty Girl if the Pelicans lose.

According to Landrieu:

“We’ve got a young, hungry team led by rising star Anthony Davis that is ready to make some noise in this year’s NBA playoffs.”

The Warriors won the first game of the series Saturday by a score of 106 to 99.
