Giants share World Series glory with home fans

The Champions have returned.

The Opening Day ceremonies at AT&T Park got underway just as the famous San Francisco fog finally burned off at China Basin.

It’s become a ritual for the Giants, but the moment Tim Lincecum, Bruce Bochy and Buster Posey carried the triplets out from center field — with the rest of the crew sauntering out behind them — was a tear-jerker.

Opening Day Loss Giants’ celebration soured by 2-0 loss.

To add just a bit of humor to the moment, Posey placed one of the trophies on the stand facing the wrong direction.

Jon Miller introduced both clubs; the fans gushed over their World Series Champions. Madison Bumgarner got a booming, long ovation from the fans. But the loud cheers quickly turned to silence, as the Giants honored fans, staff and legends who’ve passed.

Lon Simmons’ four daughters threw out the ceremonial first pitch after the voice of Bay Area sports passed away last week at the age of 91.

Opening Day for the year’s Champions has one unique perk: raising the pennant. This year’s was a doozy.

Giants fans and writers alike joked that World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner would saddle up and carry the pennant to the pole on a noble steed.

That fantasy became reality. Bumgarner, in full uniform, hopped up on a police horse and carried the banner to Jeremy Affeldt, Matt Cain, Sergio Romo, Javier Lopez, Santiago Casilla, and Tim Hudson in the right field bleachers.
