One person died after being struck by an Amtrak train Saturday afternoon in Oakland, an agency spokeswoman said.
A Capitol Corridor train was traveling to the Oakland Coliseum station just before 1 p.m. when it struck a trespasser on the tracks near the Fruitvale Avenue crossing, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said. The person died as a result, Graham said.
She said she did not have any information about the person’s identity. The tracks were closed until 4 p.m., which caused delays for four Capitol Corridor trains and one long-distance Coast Starlight train, Graham said.
