Big rig crash closes Interstate 580

Crews this morning are working to clear the scene of big-rig crash and fire on westbound Interstate Highway 580 near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in the San Quentin area of Marin County.

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig-alert due to the crash, and the highway has been closed at Main Street.

Traffic is being diverted around the crash as crews work the scene, according to the CHP. The CHP is reporting one of the trailers the big-rig was towing caught fire.

The crash was first reported at 5:26 a.m. The closed portion of the highway is expected to remain closed for several hours, and there is no estimated time as to when the scene will be cleared.
