Sunnyvale police kill robbery suspect

A robbery suspect allegedly armed with a knife died after a Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officer shot him Wednesday morning, public safety officials said.

Officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at a liquor store in the 1100 block of Tasman Drive at 11:10 a.m., public safety Capt. Jeff Hunter said. Officers found a suspect armed with a knife. One officer opened fire, hitting the suspect, Deputy Chief Dave Pitts said.

The man in his 20s was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Pitts said. The name of the suspect and what led up to the shooting were not immediately released. No officers were injured in the incident, according to Pitts.
