Former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Aaron Peskin annoucned Monday morning his candidacy to return to the board representing District 3.
Former San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin announced Monday he is running for his former seat in District 3 in the November election.
Peskin, 50, who served on the board from 2001 to 2009 before being termed out of office, served as the president of the Board of Supervisors from 2005 to 2009. He represented District 3, which includes the Chinatown, North Beach, Financial District, Fisherman’s Wharf, Nob Hill, Polk Gulch, Russian Hill and Union Square neighborhoods.
The district is currently represented by Julie Christensen, a small business owner and political activist, who was appointed to the seat in January by Mayor Ed Lee after former supervisor David Chiu was sworn in to the state Assembly.
Peskin made his announcement this morning in front of a building where housing rights advocates fought to prevent the eviction of the Lee family, an elderly Chinese couple and their adult disabled daughter:
“After 34 years calling this building home, the Lees didn’t expect to be evicted. And I didn’t expect to be running for supervisor. But the unexpected is happening every day in San Francisco, and we need to take action.”
