Train No. 426 was traveling south near Mary Avenue, which is close to the border with Mountain View, where it struck and killed a male pedestrian at 11:39 a.m., Caltrain officials said.
Caltrain officials said there were approximately 100 passengers on board the train at the time of the incident.
The train’s route has been terminated at Mountain View and Caltrain officials said they will be using a single track to go around the collision scene.
Northbound Caltrain No. 431 will turn south for local service from Sunnyvale. All other trains in the area are continuing to hold.
Caltrain spokeswoman Jayme Ackemann said this is Caltrain’s 10th fatality of the year.
