UPDATE:
A 13-year-old boy stabbed an 11-year-old boy with a knife in an apparently unprovoked attacked, police said.
The students were in the locker room during P.E., or physical education class, at the time of the attack, said Sue Casey, an executive assistant to the Martinez Unified School District superintendent.
The suspect left the immediate area of the incident and reported what he had done to school staff, police said.
He was taken into custody without incident and police said he was booked in juvenile hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

A Martinez middle school student was stabbed in a school locker room Thursday, school officials said.
Police and fire personnel responded at 11:17 a.m. to the 800 block of Susana Street, according to a dispatcher at the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
The address is adjacent to the Martinez Junior High School.
The student was airlifted to the hospital and is in stable condition, according to the dispatcher and Sue Casey, executive assistant to the Martinez Unified School District superintendent.
Casey said Martinez police have detained the student believed to be responsible for the stabbing.
She said the incident occurred in a locker room during a physical education class.
Casey said she did not have information about the age or grade of the students involved but said the school serves sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.
Parents are being advised to not pick up their children from school as the area has been rendered safe, she said.
Casey said:
“Counselors are on site for students who need those services…We drew counselors from other campuses to make sure the kids have support.”
