Fire finishes off two dozen wrecked cars

Twenty-five cars burned in a fire at an insurance auction lot in Bay Point early Tuesday morning, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials said.

The fire was reported at about 4:30 a.m. at an auction lot behind industrial buildings in the 2700 block of Willow Pass Road, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said. It took about an hour for firefighters to get the fire under control. A total of 25 cars were damaged, including 18 that burned completely, Marshall said.

The cars had all been damaged in crashes and were to be auctioned off for parts, Marshall said. There was no other property damage and no one was injured. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, but it doesn’t appear to have been suspicious, Marshall said.
