Person under BART train reportedly dies

A person reportedly under a BART train died at the Balboa Park station in San Francisco this afternoon, a transit agency spokesman said.

The station located at 401 Geneva Ave. was closed shortly before 12:30 p.m. due to a report of a person under an eastbound train, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

BART police and the San Francisco medical examiner’s office are on scene investigating the incident, he said.

The closure is impacting trains traveling in the San Francisco International Airport, Millbrae and East Bay directions, according to BART officials.

Trains on the Dublin/Pleasanton line heading to Daly City are turning back at 24th Street Mission station, Allison said.

Pittsburg/Bay Point trains heading to the San Francisco International Airport are making all stops, with the exception of the Balboa Park station, Allison said.

Eastbound trains are delayed by about 10 to 20 minutes due to trains single-tracking at Balboa Park, he said.

Trains traveling between the Richmond and Fremont stations are not impacted by the station closure, according to Allison.
