A 9-year-old boy was hospitalized after he fell through a plastic skylight onto the cement floor below at a Novato elementary school this morning, according to a police sergeant.
The boy was apparently playing when he fell through the roof at Hamilton Meadow Park School, located at 5530 Nave Drive, Novato police Sgt. Sasha D’Amico said.
D’Amico said she believes it was a parent who drove the boy to the Novato Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
The hospital called police at 11:48 a.m. to report the incident, she said.
D’Amico said she did not know the extent of the boy’s injuries.
A spokeswoman for the school district said the district did not have details about the incident.
“Our hearts go out to the injured child and his family,” Novato Unified School District spokeswoman Leslie Benjamin said.
A parent was close by when the child fell, but D’Amico said it appeared the parent did not know the child was on the roof.
