Law enforcement officials this morning are looking for the public’s help in locating a man who escaped custody March 6 during a medical appointment at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose.

Inmate Johnell Carter escaped around 1:30 p.m. after fighting with a deputy, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy injured his shoulder during the altercation.

Carter was in custody after being booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on March 10, 2014 on five counts of suspicion of child molestation, deputies said.

The Deputy Sheriff’s Association and Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers are offering a $6,000 reward for information leading to Carter’s arrest.
