Man sentenced to 23 years in prison for armed robberies

A man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for his involvement two December 2013 armed robberies, Santa Cruz District Attorney Jeff Rosell announced Wednesday.

Vincent Turner Jr., 22, on two occasions arranged to buy marijuana from individuals on Craigslist and then robbed the victims at gunpoint, prosecutors said.

On Dec. 9, 2013, Turner robbed a man and a woman at gunpoint in a hospital parking lot after arranging a meeting to buy marijuana with them on Craigslist, prosecutors said.

On Dec. 27, 2013, Turner arranged for another meeting via Craigslist to purchase marijuana and robbed and shot a man in the arm and torso during the encounter, prosecutors said.

Turner is facing a similar charge in Sacramento County for a Dec. 11, 2013 robbery in which he is accused of discharging a firearm into the air, prosecutors said.

On Jan. 29, Turner pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder, one count of robbery and admitted enhancements for using a firearm and inflicting great bodily harm, prosecutors said.

He was sentenced March 5.
