Pedestrian struck, killed by Caltrain

A Caltrain struck and killed a person in Palo Alto this morning, Caltrain officials said.

Northbound train No. 309 struck and killed the person at about 6:25 a.m. on the tracks south of Churchill Avenue, according to Caltrain officials. The fatality initially shut down Caltrain service in both directions.

The southbound tracks reopened around 7:15 a.m. and trains are single-tracking through the area this morning, agency officials said. Passengers on train No. 309 were able to disembark at the Stanford station.

SamTrans and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority vehicles will accept Caltrain tickets today as a result of the incident, Caltrain officials said.
