Rohnert Park man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance after his residence caught fire, a Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officer said.
The public safety department, which includes police and firefighters, responded around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday to a fire at a home at 414 Alta Ave., Cmdr. Pat Strouse said.
The garage and attic were burning when firefighters arrived.
Fire crews from Rancho Adobe and Rincon Valley assisted in extinguishing the blaze, Strouse said.
Firefighters found several butane canisters in the area of the fire and other items that indicated a hash oil operation in the residence, Strouse said.
The fire caused severe smoke and fire damage of about $100,000 to the residence, he said.
The resident, Jody Perry, 33, was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance and violating his probation.
Perry suffered a minor injury to his face but declined medical treatment, Strouse said.
A Sonoma County Jail spokesman said Perry was not yet listed on the booking log.
Strouse said the cause of the fire and suspected drug activity remain under investigation.

Cop sees the victim of house fire and thinks “how can I exploit and victimize this poor soul even more? I know! I’ll arrest him for making herbal oils from plants!”
What kind of disgusting backwards nonsense land do we live in now?
This article makes me sick. This is what they take our money for? To further ruin the lives of those whose lives are already ruined? I wonder how these Officers sleep at night knowing they and their masters are the true criminals.
When you allow strangers to make decisions about what you can and cannot do with your life, it will always lead to exploitation. We tell our children “don’t talk to strangers” and then surrender our lives to a whole line-up of criminals that we never meet. They claim we have law in this country, yet not one of these strangers knows more than 1% of the total law of their state and the entire federal registry. The average person commits 3 felonies a day. You would be dead before you could read “the laws” you are supposed to follow with no excuses. This is a criminal con folks, wake up and do something about it. It’s only getting worse by the day. Government is consistently the most deadly force throughout ALL of human history and the greatest threat to survival. How exactly is it benefiting us again?
