A group of 72 passengers have settled personal injury suits against Asiana Airlines, leaving a small number of unsettled claims remaining.
A group of 72 passengers on the Asiana Airlines flight that crashed at San Francisco International Airport in 2013 have settled personal injury claims filed against the airline and the plane’s manufacturer, according to a court document filed Tuesday.
The settlement, announced jointly today by lawyers for both sides, leaves “a couple dozen” cases yet to be resolved, according to plaintiff’s attorney Frank Pitre:
“It’s a very good first, positive step, hopefully a first step to a global resolution for all plaintiffs.”
The lawsuit, filed in August 2013 following the July 6, 2013 crash, accused both Asiana and Boeing Co., the plane’s manufacturer, of negligence.
Three teenage Chinese schoolgirls died as a result of the crash and more than 180 passengers were injured when the low-flying Boeing 777 struck a seawall bordering San Francisco Bay and the tail section was separated from the aircraft’s fuselage.
