Manuel Alvarez Zuniga, 34, of San Jose was found shot in the 300 block of North Capitol Avenue at 9:44 p.m., police said. He was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries a short time later.
Police have not disclosed a motive for Zuniga’s shooting, but the Chronicle reported Zuniga was killed after interrupting the theft of a $30 box of cigars from the liquor store next door.
Investigators are canvassing the area for more information, police said. No suspects have been identified.
