Rohnert Park’s Department of Public Safety is looking for a man who harassed a teenage girl and college student in the city in separate instances within a two-week span.
On Jan. 28, a 14-year-old girl was walking to school on Cala Way around 8:30 a.m., when a man pulled up next to her in his car and asked for directions to the freeway, police said.
He then asked her to enter his car to help him get to the freeway and drove away when other juveniles walked up to the girl, according to police.
A short time later, the girl saw the man staring at her while he drove on East Cotati Avenue, police said. She became afraid and ran to the school, according to police.
Police later learned that the girl’s friend, who’s also a 14-year-old girl, was encountered by a man about four months ago while she was walking to school on East Cotati Avenue and he asked if she wanted a ride to the campus.
The friend’s description of the man from four months ago was similar to the one in the Jan. 28 incident, according to police.
On Tuesday, a female college student was jogging in the city’s “M” section around 1:30 p.m. when a man approached her and asked her to give him directions, police said.
When she refused to help and got on her cellphone, he drove away.
The student recognized the man was the same person who pulled up to her in the same area last month, asked if she was a Sonoma State University student and if she wanted a ride or give him directions, according to police.
Both victims described the man as Hispanic and in his 20s or 30s with black hair, a heavy-set round face and thin beard.
In the incident on Jan. 28, he was wearing black-rimmed glasses and driving a dark gray newer four-door sedan with chrome factory wheels and tinted rear windows, police said.
On Tuesday, he was in an early 2000s black Honda Civic, according to police.

Anyone who encounters the man is asked to call the department’s dispatch center at (707) 584-2611 and try to record the vehicle’s license plate number.
