Woman dies in alleged hit-and-run, driver at large

A driver involved in a collision that allegedly killed a 25-year-old woman from Bay Point late Saturday is at large today, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The collision occurred at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Bailey and Canal roads in unincorporated Contra Costa County, said CHP Officer William Ogilvie.

The vehicle involved in the collision was traveling north on Bailey Road and struck the woman who was walking west in the crosswalk, CHP officials said.

The woman was thrown in a northerly direction and fell on the asphalt road. She was pronounced dead where the collision took place.

Officials said they do not know yet whether drugs or alcohol caused the collision.

The incident is under investigation and officials are asking any witnesses or anyone who has information about the incident to call CHP-Contra Costa Officer L. Eatchel at (925) 646-4980.
