Homicide victim found in Fremont Sunday identified

A homicide victim found in Fremont early Sunday morning has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 24-year-old Newark resident David Haynes Jr.

Fremont police said officers found Haynes at about 3 a.m. Sunday when they responded to several reports of a disturbance in the 5400 block of Farina Lane.

Callers told police they could hear glass breaking and that a possible fight was taking place in the street.

Police said officers found Haynes inside a house suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene.

Fremont police spokeswoman Officer Geneva Bosques said officers are withholding information about the nature of the man’s death while the investigation continues.

Bosques said there are “active leads” in the probe by Fremont detectives and officers from the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force.

Fremont police said anyone with information about Haynes’ death should call them at (510) 790-6900.
