Peninsula law enforcement agencies teamed up Friday to target distracted drivers, issuing more than 50 citations for using handheld devices behind the wheel, according to the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association.
Participating agencies included the San Bruno and Millbrae police departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, focusing on areas in San Bruno and Millbrae.
In all, they issued 42 cellphone violations and 10 text messaging violations. Officers also issued 11 citations for other traffic violations. Friday’s targeted enforcement action was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
