Police on Saturday made an arrest in connection with a December shooting in Santa Rosa.
Police arrested a 17-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder with a gang enhancement, crime to benefit a gang, carrying a loaded firearm in public and carrying a concealed firearm in public.
The arrest came as a result of an investigation into a Dec. 23 shooting in which a 14-year-old was struck by two bullets by a suspect shouting gang challenges during the shooting, police said.
The teenager and another 16-year-old were sitting on the Prince Memorial Pathway at 9:21 p.m. when two Hispanic male suspects confronted them, police said.
One pulled a gun on the teens and fired at least five shots, hitting the 14-year-old twice.
The teen was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
On Saturday at around 11:30 p.m., officers were patrolling the area of West Ninth Street and Rockwell Place when they located one of the suspects from the shooting.
The suspect tried to flee on foot, removed a handgun from his waistband and discarded it on the ground before he was detained, police said.
Police said the loaded semi-automatic handgun was the same caliber as the one used in the Dec. 23 shooting.
Police are still working to identify a second suspect they believe was involved in the shooting.
