Members of the Santa Cruz County Bomb Team detonated an incendiary device on Friday after confiscating it from a man’s home, Scotts Valley police said Saturday.
Officers responded to a report of a man with a gun at 2:10 p.m. in the area of Whispering Pines Drive, police said. Police said officers were able to defuse the situation and the suspect was taken into custody.
Police located items related to an “incendiary device” in the suspect’s house. The Santa Cruz County Bomb Team responded to the residence and seized the items, which were later detonated in the old Sky Park Airport field as a precaution.
Police said area residents may have heard a loud explosion, which was a result of the detonation. The incident remains under investigation, police said.
