Suspects sought in brazen Patagonia burglary

Two suspects remain at large after smashing a U-Haul truck into a store near San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf area and then stealing merchandise early Monday morning, a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The smash-and-grab burglary occurred at the Patagonia outdoor clothing and gear store at 770 North Point St. shortly before 3:40 a.m. Monday, according to San Francisco police Officer Grace Gatpandan. Gatpandan said the suspects backed up the rental truck and smashed into the glass storefront before taking “a ton of stuff.”

Around 7:45 p.m. that same day, the U-Haul truck was located on the other side of the city on La Grande Avenue near John McLaren Park in the Excelsior neighborhood, according to Gatpandan.

Police are reviewing video surveillance footage from the scene but have not yet publicly released the footage or any suspect descriptions. Gatpandan said the U-Haul used to commit the burglary was not reported stolen and that officers are working to track down the person who rented the truck.

An employee at the Patagonia store this morning said they are open for business.
