AC Transit's 72R line along San Pablo Boulevard is among the service targeted for possible upgrades.
The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District will take public comment Wednesday on its plans to expand and reroute bus lines, transit officials have announced.
Changes are being proposed mainly to weekend service, but minor changes are proposed to weekday service as well. If the district approves the changes, bus lines 72, 72M, 72R, 46, 200, 212, 217, 339 and 680 will be affected. Changes are being made mainly to weekend service.
The district has seen significant increases to weekend ridership and it’s easier for the district to put more buses on the road on the weekends. AC Transit general manager David Armijo said in a statement:
“We’re very pleased that AC Transit’s financial situation has improved enough – and ridership has increased significantly enough – that the district is able to make modest service increases, adding approximately 20,000 annual service hours for a $2 million annual cost.”
The district has implemented some changes already and most of the remaining ones require a public hearing, district officials said.

The board plans to make a decision on the changes at the end of Monday’s hearing. The district will implement any approved changes in March.
