Human skull found under Oakland overpass

A human skull was found during a cleanup of a homeless encampment under Interstate Highway 980 in Oakland Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The skull was discovered by Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol in the area of Seventh and Castro streets at about 1 p.m., police said. CHP officials said the skull was found during the cleanup of a homeless encampment there.

Oakland police responded to investigate and the skull was turned over to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau to determine if it was in fact human and to try and determine whose skull it was.
