School bus strikes pedestrian on I-280

A pedestrian was struck by a school bus on Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco Wednesday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The collision happened around 12:15 p.m. on northbound Highway 280 just south of the Ocean Avenue overcrossing, CHP Officer Vu Williams said. Witnesses said a man was on the right shoulder and ran into oncoming traffic, according to Williams.

He was then hit by the school bus in the second lane from the right, Williams said. The pedestrian was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. Williams did not know what condition the man was in but said he was conscious and talking at the scene.

The bus driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and did not suffer injuries in the collision. He stayed at the scene and was cooperative with officers, Williams said. It does not appear that the bus sustained damage from the collision, he said.

The two right lanes on northbound Highway 280 were closed due to the accident and were estimated to reopen around 1:30 p.m., according to Williams.
