Union City teacher arrested, accused of student relationship

A James Logan High School teacher has been arrested on suspicion of an inappropriate physical relationship with a student, New Haven Unified School District officials said Tuesday.

Joe Rey Valle, 49, was arrested Friday evening after school district personnel earlier that day became aware of the alleged physical relationship and notified police, according to the district.

UPDATE 1/7 Logan High teacher charged with sex-related felonies.

Union City police Lt. Matias Pardo said Valle was arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor. Valle was put on administrative leave by the district that went into effect Monday, district officials said.

District officials said in a statement:

“Prior to being hired by the district, Mr. Valle did pass all required screenings and background checks, however, as part of our commitment to student safety, we took immediate action to initiate the proper notifications and investigations.”

Pardo said the school district notified parents at the school about the case and that police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Officer Rob Young at (510) 471-1365.
